5 restaurants and 3 cities

5 restaurants, 3 cities and countless delicious food finds!

My birthday this year was filled with SA travel, watching sunrise, learning to surf, gorgeous sea views and toes spent in beach sand… But a perfect birthday wouldn’t be the same without some of my favourite places to wine and dine, and I was lucky enough to celebrate at five of them in my birthday week.

When you’re next in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town, I highly recommend that you try out some of these places.

Umhlanga, Durban

What I had/recommend:

Prosciutto, parmesan and rocket pizza.

Aperol Spritz is a must!

Bel Punto

Umdloti, Durban

What I had/recommend:

Steamed mussels done in a white wine, Italian tomato and cream sauce with diced fresh tomato and parsley.

Slices of imported mozzarella balls and fresh tomato with capers, basil and extra virgin olive oil.

Risotto di Mare, arborio rice, prawns, mussels, calamari, shrimps, Italian tomato and white wine.

My favourite: Beef fillet medallions char-grilled and then in the Italian way cooked into Gorgonzola sauce, served with gorgonzola penne.

Osteria Rossa

Bedfordview, Johannesburg

What I had/recommend:

Penne filleto.

Piccante pizza. Just a heads up – the large pizza can feed up to 6 people.

Nutella frozen yoghurt is a must!

Banjaara Indian Cuisine

Bedforview, Johannesburg

What I had/recommend:

Sesame Naan and Riata, slightly sweet plain yoghurt with shredded cucumber.

Butter chicken, served with rice.

Chicken Korma (most popular), served with rice.

Diced cucumber, tomato and onion.

Giovannis Deli

Green Point, Cape Town

What I had/recommend:

Panini with italian coppa, buffalo mozzarella, rocket and olives.
